Rinse and Repeat

I ran the shower for a full two hours today and I didn’t care about the water bill and I didn’t care about the environment and I made the water so hot that it burned.

I washed my hair three times before I did anything, letting the dual-action-2-in-1-shampoo-plus-conditioner sit while I stared at the wall before rinsing and repeating and repeating.

I washed every square inch of my body and scrubbed off layers of dead skin cells that I imagined getting sucked down the drain and ending up somewhere else and I tried to get as much of me off as I could.

When I turned off the water, the leftover heat surrounded me before eventually slipping away like it always does.

My hands were pruney, white, and wrinkled and I didn’t know what to do with myself.

I thought about getting back in.
